  1. NeXT Computer, Inc. has an opening for a Network/System Administrator.  We
  2. are located in sunny Redwood City, CA (Silicon Valley).
  3.  
  4. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
  5. Administration of a network of NEXTSTEP machines and other UNIX hosts;
  6. administration of the company wide TCP/IP network.
  7.  
  8. DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES:
  9.  * Responsible for analyzing and tuning network performance
  10.  * Troubleshooting network problems
  11.  * Maintenance of user accounts
  12.  * Administration of an Auspex NFS server
  13.  * Network backup
  14.  * Managing secure dial-in remote access
  15.  * UUCP
  16.  * eMail administration
  17.  * Wide-area networking (Frame-Relay, leased lines, ISDN, ATM, etc.)
  18.  * Software upgrade of networked machines
  19.  * Knowledge of DNS
  20.  * Maintenance of Usenet News
  21.  
  22. REQUIRED BACKGROUND:
  23. Minimum of 3 years experience as a UNIX system administrator with proven
  24. competence in the following:
  25.  * BSD 4.3 UNIX operating system and tools
  26.  * Shell scripting (Bourne,Perl)
  27.  
  28. Education: 4-year degree in Computer Science OR equivalent experience
  29.  
  30. Excellent communication skills - written and verbal
  31. Process-oriented problem-solver
  32. Adaptable to dynamic business conditions and environment; can-do attitude
  33. Ability to prioritize and respond to multiple customer requests in a
  34. dynamic work environment
  35. Ability to identify system and/or network problems and propose solutions
  36. via existing systems
